Springbank 10 yo Rundlets & Kilderkins, 49,4 %

Review #126
Distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2012. Only 9.000 bottles were made. It is matured in very small casks (a Kilderkin, or Rundlet, is a small oak cask equal to an imperial measurement of volume of 18 gallons or 68 litres), and therefore should it taste a lot older than it actually is. Well, let’s see about that. The smell is full bodied. Almost thick. Some nuts, tobacco, apricots and lot of other stuff.

The taste is very powerful. Not in the alcohol, but in the taste. Very dark. Oak, earth and peat is dominant factors. Some dark fruits in the far background as well. In the finish the oak is still present, alongside ash and burned caramel sweetness.

A really nice Springbank if you are into the ‘heavier’ stuff. Very complex with a fine balance. I will rate this 91/100 (23/22/23/23).
