Also called “Rare Old Highland Malt”. It has a
fascinating story, so go read it if you have the time! It is a remake of
Mackinlays Rare Old Highland Malt from 1907 from Glen Mhor, which was found on
Antarctica in 2007. The smell is typical Highland. You get some light peat,
barley, grass and fresh fruits.
The taste is very warming, and luckily it wasn’t
watered down to 40 %. It is full of spices with some oak, nuts and a light creamy
sugary finish.
They believe that the whisky from 1907 was matured in
sherry wood and the peat was from Orkney. It is fun trying to taste whisky like
it did more than a hundred years ago. I will rate this 89/100 (21/23/23/22).
