Review #218 |
From
Oloroso sherry casks comes this Revival, which is discontinued (for now). This
is bottled in 2015 so let’s start by doing some math (don’t worry, it won’t be
boring). GlenDronach was mothballed from 1996 to 2001, so if this whisky should
be 15 years old, it would have to be from 2000. GlenDronach was (as I write)
mothballed in 2000, so the whisky will have to be at least 4 years older than
the 15 years the write on the label. Conclusion: Go buy these bottles, because
when the Revival relaunches in 2018/2019, the content will probably be
dominantly 15 years old!
Very
sherry-like, yet very light in the smell! After some minutes some more dried
fruits comes to mind and some very well balanced oak appears. Plums in the end.
Ripe plums and some hints of dark berries.
Nice heavy
Oloroso influence in the taste. Tannins, dates, raisins and hints of coffee.
The dried fruits, the raisins in particular, stays in the mouth for quite a
while in the finish with some sugary notes covering the mouth. Overall, the dried fruits is
just working nicely from start to finish. I will rate this whisky 88/100 (22/22/22/22).
