GlenDronach 18 yo, Allardice, 46 %

Review #219
Allardice is Oloroso sherry matured. It is named after the distillery’s founder. Lots of dried fruits at first in the smell. Dates and raisins. In the end some more fresh fruits appears. I would say a mix of ripe plums, berries and some kind of fruitcake.

Heavy, heavy dried fruits in the taste. Some sour notes as well… Lemongrass, orange-peel or something like that, and only in the background. The heavy style just continuous in the finish. It is like that the heaviness of the dried fruits overpowers the oaky notes in the taste, but as the dried fruits calms down in the finish, the oaky notes comes forward.

Quite a heavily sherried whisky considering that it is only 46 %. It lacks some in the complexity, but if you are into the heavily sherried stuff, you will probably make that sacrifice here! I will rate this 87/100 (22/22/22/21).
