This is a
blended malt from Ian MacLeod (the new design from 2011). They have blended
malts from all of the whisky producing Islands in Scotland and made this peaty
dram. Well, when they started making it, it was the only Islands producing
whisky, but a lot of things has changed since. Light and peaty in the smell
with marzipan sweetness and light citrusy notes.
There is
more peat in the taste. Fresh and malty with hints of grass and citrus. Some
honey and loads of vanilla is coming forward in the finish. In the end, you are
just left behind with some sweet peat, and that is a lovely feeling!
It seems a
bit young, and not much oak influence is coming through. It is very easy
drinking though, and I love the experiment with all the Islands represented in
one bottle. With a little longer time in the cask and a bit higher ABV this
could be much better. I will give this 83/100 (20/21/21/21).
