Caledonian 27 yo (1984/2013), SMWS G3.4, 57,5 %

Review #290
This is called 'Pride of a Bengal' and comes from a refill bourbon hogshead. Only 219 bottles were made. Sweet vanilla and gentle oak on the nose. So mellow and gentle on the nose considering that it is 57,5 %. I wouldn't have guessed. Some apples and pears appears as well, but in the desert kind of way.

In the taste, you get the power, but the flavors is still very elegant. You get all the classic grain stuff like vanilla, honey, some oak due to the age and cask chosen, but also some spices. All the above mentioned things just lingers for quite a while in the finish.

It is a very well balanced whisky and just a tad different from the usual grain whiskies. A very well chosen cask by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. This needs some water due to the high ABV, but it doesn’t change the whisky much. I will rate this 89/100 (22/22/22/23).
