Macduff 38 yo (1968/2006), DT Rare Auld, 45,4 %

Review #298
From the Duncan Taylor series "Rare Auld". It has casknumber 8545 and only 213 bottles were made. It is cask strength, but only at 45,4 % after 38 years, and that really shows on the nose. Not much alcohol on the nose and the flavors come right away. Some floral notes, nectar, vanilla and loads of oak.

It is sweet and almost rubbery in the taste at first. So much oak… The ABV is perfect though! A slight burn, but nothing that overwhelms the flavors. Some floral notes coming through in the finish with sweet vanilla and almonds.

I wouldn’t recommend water with this. It is old and fragile, and I think the ABV works very well. If you do anyway, be very careful not to drown it. For me this is just a bit above average from start to finish, but it is always very interesting to see what long maturation does to a whisky. I will give this 84/100 (21/21/21/21).
