Chivas Regal Extra, 40%

Review #515
This was introduced to the core range in 2015 and includes extra Sherry cask matured whisky. I get some tobacco notes and dried fruits at first in the smell, but it is still very fresh. Perhaps because of the low ABV and youthfulness of the whisky, which also makes it a bit subdued in general.

It gets a bit more flavourful in the taste. Again, the tobacco is in focus and some leather comes forward as well. The dried fruits are there, but in the background. They come forward in the finish though alongside some fruity sweetness.

I actually quite like this. I really like when the Sherry cask matured whiskies pick up the tobacco/leather/old dusted books notes. This is a fine example, but the 40% does that you have to look for it, and unfortunately you don’t have too much time to look, as the finish isn’t too long… I will give this 83/100 (20/22/21/20).
