Johnnie Walker, Gold Label Reserve (bottled 2013), 40%

Review #532
The Gold Label was first introduced in 1920 to celebrate Johnnie Walkers 100 year anniversary. This is the new relaunched version from 2012. It is built from a base of whisky from Clynelish. Fresh, sweet and fruity in the smell. Vanilla, honey, pears and gentle oak. A very mild expression.

A bit more happens in the taste. Still fresh, but some light smoke appears and just a touch of citrus. Very sweet in the finish. Syrupy honey, vanilla and oak. Some coconut hides in the background with some sweet dessert pears.

As my father well put it, “you could easily serve this for someone new to whisky”. A light expression, yet it offer some flavours. For me, the 40% does make it a little watery, and that’s too bad, as the dram is fine. I will give this 82/100 (20/20/21/21).
