Kilchoman 100% Islay (2010/2017) 7th release, 50%

Review #616
The series ”100% Islay” is produced completely on Islay, from the barley grown, to the maturation and bottling. It is slightly less peated than their other releases, and is matured in refill ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels. Light peat and malted barley in the smell. Hay and burned oak.

The peat comes more forward in the taste with some vanilla and candied apples. Very sweet indeed! Citrusy notes hides in the background. Burned oak and spices in the finish that mixes with the sweet flavours. Lingers out nice and easy.

I really think this is quality casks. Firstly, the ex-Bourbon barrels really gives this whisky a sweet and vanilla-like profile. Secondly, the oak and (especially) the oak spices really shines through in the finish. I will give this 83/100 (20/21/21/21).
