Cardhu 2015

We entered a small shop, and after a short look around the ‘not that interesting selection’, I went up to the register and bought the tour tickets. It was the normal tour to the price of £8. We were told to wait in another room, and more and more people joined. We ended up being 16 people on the tour.

We started the tour by passing cans with scents around the room. When you are 16 people it can take a while, and the cans smelled more like fragrance soaps than actual scents. Not the best start, and then we were told that we couldn’t take any picture inside the distillery. A thing that is really starting to piss me off! A lot of the distilleries have long explanations way you can’t take any pictures, and the story is often different from the previous distillery. At least they have one thing in common: Its total bullshit!

The tour around the distillery was fine but the guides knowledge was a bit off. She had some facts about the foreshots & faints and maturation that was wrong. We went through all the steps in the production. She started explaining the malting process and ended at a warehouse where they had made a display room.

A couple of features that is special for Cardhu, which is worth mentioning:
- It is the only distillery in Scotland founded by a woman
- There is Cardhu in all Johnnie Walker whisky

In the end we tasted 3 different expressions from Cardhu and we got a glass. It was the Amber Rock, 15 year old and Gold Reserve. It was a fine ending on an okay tour. I will rate this 4/10.
