We were 3 guys going from Edinburgh out to Glenkinchie
Distillery. For those who don’t know, Glenkinchie is located far out on the
countryside. The distillery has a small museum which is quite nice to look at
while waiting for your tour to begin. There aren’t many choices, practically
only 2. The standard tour and the standard tour with 3 additionally whiskies to
taste.
Right from the start you know that this is a business
owned by Diageo. They try to stew as many people as possible in to a group. I
think we were around 30 people. And the tour guide was a young man (my guess
would be that he was a student helper) that didn’t knew that much about whisky.
It was funny to see the production and the enormous
stills that Glenkinchie has. We weren’t allowed in the warehouse, but had a
quick peep in one of the smaller ones. I suspect them that it was a fake one…
And then at the end we tasted a Glenkinchie whisky. We had our additional 3
whiskies, which not even were Glenkinchie whiskies but just some other whiskies
from Diageo Distilleries.
I will only give this tour 4 out of 10. But if it
wasn’t for the tour to Glenkinchie Distillery I would never have found Winston
Arms. The most authentic Scottish Pub I have ever been at.
