Stauning is
a new Danish distillery from 2009. I would recommend everybody to read about
their history and how 9 friends started to distill a single barrel whisky, and
found it so good that they established a distillery that Jim Murray has
compared to Ardbeg (in regard of their spirit). Stauning make everything
themselves, and you are getting around every process on the tour, and you can
tell right away that they are very committed.
I give the visit the score 7 out
of 10. Not much have to be improved to reach a higher score, but here are two
downsides. It is a very popular tourist attraction, so we were over 100 people
present. They divided the group into 2 groups, so over 50 persons per tour.
That is to many people and it isn’t possible to buy an extended tour. And this
is where the second downside comes into play. At the end you are only served
three 1 cl samples. One a young rye that is only 20 month old, so it is not
even a whisky. But it is a young distillery, and I expect that there will be
more whisky to taste in the future. I will give this visit 7 out of 10.
I had a lovely private Tour a few days ago. Tasted some very nice drams as well. I bought the Young Rye to take back to Holland. I'll write blogs about the visit and this Rye on www.whiskyoss.nl in a few weeks time.
ReplyDeleteA private tour is definitely the way to go! Looking forward to your piece. Let me know when it goes online.
